Paper by Estefanía Trisotti

The current collaborative Web services imply a new understanding of how different structures of file publication and storage are being built. Different social media accentuate the idea of how the community can have as much impact as any other traditional platform of media.
The so called “web 2.0” proposes a model of available spaces to strengthen the users’ participation and collaboration. This paper sets out a structure of records which design is based on the benefits we are able to obtain from this model for the creation of spaces of collective memory; at the same time, this model must be compatible with the inflexibility that a traditional library created by archivists and librarians imply. A collaborative collection of a Web model was designed; its objective is to maintain the integrity and continuance of files throughout time, based on different modes of artifact compilation-as one would expect from an archivist-but that, at the same time, incentivizes the interaction and participation of first- source material users. “Travesías e[ad]” (Journeys e[ad]) employ this concept to strengthen and grant users authorship tools in order to enrich the quality of the published information, assignating the artifacts geo-referentially related situations or “events”. The information is strengthened due to the participation of people who collaborate with a first source authorship.

This quality adds valuable semantic power to the contents, both for its description and the optimization of its search. As a consequence of the problems stated above, this paper sets out findings and solutions related to the design of the journey’s interface which could eventually be interesting or even useful for the creation of new geo-referential and collaborative file sites interfaces, or for other kinds of file sites.
